ClariFi · Categorization Agent
Your ledger, mapped to the KPIs investors ask about
Your accounting system knows accounts. Your board asks about gross margin, burn, and CAC. ClariFi's categorization agent proposes how every trial-balance account feeds your KPIs, using what it knows about your industry, and your accountant approves each mapping before it counts.
Part of onboarding on every plan, from $199/mo. No long-term commitment.
How it works
- 1
Agree the metrics that matter
At onboarding, ClariFi suggests the operating metrics companies in your industry track, from 45 standard KPIs across 14 industries, and you agree the list with your accountant.
- 2
Import the trial balance
Your accountant imports the trial balance from your accounting system. If debits and credits do not balance, the import is refused before anything downstream changes.
- 3
The agent proposes mappings
Deterministic rules handle the obvious accounts, and the agent proposes the rest, drawing on your industry and on how similar accounts have been mapped before. Every proposal lands as a draft.
- 4
Your accountant approves
Each mapping is approved, corrected, or rejected by a person. Saved mappings stay visible and correctable, so next month's import maps the same way.
What the AI does, and what people do
AI proposes; people approve. That split is built into the product, not left to a policy.
The AI drafts
- Proposes which KPI each trial-balance account feeds
- Takes your industry into account
- Reuses approved mappings so each month stays consistent
Your team decides
- Approve, correct, or reject every mapping
- Agree which KPIs you track
- Review the KPIs before they reach your dashboard or board pack
The AI never
- Counts a mapping nobody approved
- Accepts an out-of-balance trial balance
- Changes your chart of accounts or your books

Frequently asked questions
What is trial balance mapping?
Trial balance mapping links each account in your general ledger to the metric it belongs to, such as revenue, cost of goods sold, or a department's operating expense. It is what turns raw accounting data into KPIs like gross margin, burn, and runway.
Does the AI categorize my transactions?
No. Your bookkeeper categorizes transactions in your accounting system. The categorization agent works one level up: it proposes how each trial-balance account maps to your KPIs, and your accountant approves every mapping.
What if a mapping is wrong?
Saved mappings are visible and correctable at any time. Fix it once and every later import uses the corrected mapping.
