Revenue Leakage
Quick definition
Revenue a company earned the right to collect but never did, lost to billing errors and process gaps rather than churn.
Revenue leakage is money a company was entitled to bill and collect but never captured, distinct from churn or lost deals. Common sources include failed payments and involuntary churn, unbilled usage or added seats, discounts and promo codes that never expire, mis-prorated plan changes, missed renewals, and un-invoiced expansion. Because it is spread across many small failures, no single dashboard shows it. Leakage commonly runs a few percent of ARR, and closing it lifts revenue and retention without winning a single new customer.
